From: Alternate Universe Today Archivist Subject: AT WHAT PRICE? by Lynne Ann Morse Date: Sun, 21 Jun 1998 03:25:32 -0700 name = Lynne Ann Morse email = morselya@indigo.ie title = warnings = (none) story = (from the author of "Little Things", something a little different... the poem is actually set to a melody, published in the fanzine for Garibaldi Fanz Online; direct your browsers here for more info http://tripod.members.com/~b5fanatic/GaribaldiFanz/index.html) AT WHAT PRICE? Lynne Ann Morse At what price, the safety of our people? Are we to live, no matter the cost? What matters then, at the battle's end As we survey the field With our soul in darkness lost? To ensure the freedom of the Corps, We make tools of other sentient life. What the left hand does, the right ignores, 'till they seek justice with a knife. There's a debt owed to a man of good heart, In secret turned to darkest of deeds. His soul laid bare, without a care, To put the damage right. Hear me well: from acts like these Does hatred breed. (Written in response to the Babylon 5 episode "Face of the Enemy", though it does just as well for "Phoenix Rising", in retrospect.) (PS -- I am not subscribed to this list, so please e-mail responses to me, if it's not too much trouble! Thanks in advance and thanks for reading!) -----------------------------------------------
