From: "Julie" Subject: Fan Fiction: Another Tale from The Babylonian Cycle Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 19:04:25 -0400 The Babylonian Cycle is a recounting of the events in Babylon 5 from an = Arthurian / mythological perspective. I looked at some of the other = stories written and decided to try my hand at it. This has spoilers for = the Byron / Bester events, specifically the one Byron tells Lyta in = Season 5 (I can't remember which episode, sorry). Enjoy! There may be = more coming soon. Constructive criticism and feedback is, as always, = welcome.=20 If this doesn't come through well and you'd like to read it, please = e-mail me, and I'll send it to you. The Babylonian Cycle The Tale of Bester the Self-Righteous and Byron the Noble And it came to pass in the days of Sheradin the Great and Ivonava the = Strong that there were a great many Mindwalkers. And though they were = small in number, they were formed into a coalition and separated from = the rest of the population. This coalition of Mindwalkers was led by the = most powerful of them all, Bester the Self-righteous. Bester was = fiercely protective of the other Mindwalkers and held a great hatred = against any who threatened them. And at this time there was another great Mindwalker, Byron the Noble. = Bester the Self-righteous had taken Byron as a pupil, to teach him his = ways to be his successor as head of the Mindwalkers.=20 Now, there were Mindwalkers who did not wish to be a member of the = coalition under the tyrannical rule of Bester. And they fled from it, to = seek refuge. They were hunted down to rejoin the coalition by Bester and = his aids, who were called Bloodhounds.=20 And it came to pass that a great number of these fleeing Mindwalkers had = taken refuge on a star-ship, to reach a haven for Mindwalkers. On the = way, however, they were intercepted by Bester, his Bloodhounds, and his = new prot=E9g=E9, Byron. They came in ships with great guns and demanded = the return of the Mindwalkers. The captain, fearful for his life and the = lives of his crew, complied. And then Bester the Self-righteous, in his wickedness, decided to make = an example of the ship, to show others what would happen to those who = helped renegade Mindwalkers. And he demanded that the star-ship be = destroyed. The captain pleaded with Bester, for there were women and = innocent children aboard the ship, but Bester did not listen to him. And = he told Byron the Noble to fire upon the star-ship. But Byron had not = the wicked heart of Bester, and cherished all life, both Mindwalker and = otherwise. And he stood his ground, and would not fire upon the ship. And Bester then ordered the others to turn their guns upon Byron, for if = he did not fire, they would kill both him and the ship. And Byron the = Noble was torn, for if he did not fire upon the innocents in the ship, = he would surely die. And then, though he hated himself for doing it, he = fired upon the ship. Byron hated himself for this, and in time he too left the coalition of = Mindwalkers, but that is another tale for another day. Have a fitznanitating day! Julie :) Come to the Procrastinator's Aid!
