Delenn the Wise and the Wheel of Fire By Christina Jarrett And it came to pass in the days of old that the great Minbari people fought amongst themselves. They were without a leader, and those who had ruled them were scattered across their lands, and amongst the stars. Without a guiding hand, they had fallen into war. The priests, and other religious people were fighting with the Warriors. Amidst all of this, the Workers remained silent, fearful of the other great castes. The Religious Caste had been hurt in many battles, and their numbers began to dwindle. Their leader knew that it was time to surrender. So Delenn the Wise spoke to her friend Neroon the warrior. Together they prepared themselves to save the Minbari people. calling upon Shakiri the leader of the Warriors, Delenn promised him that she would stand down. He was permitted to chose the place, and time of she would lead the Religious caste into a final surrender. Neroon had told Shakiri of a great emple used in the ancient times when one caste surrendered to another. So it was decided that this would be the place. The Warriors wished to embrace the ways of Ancient times. In the great temple, Delenn told all of the Minbari that the religious caste surrendered, for they were no match for the strength of the Warriors. Shakiri then told her that the Warriors would rule all of the Minbari. She very much disagreed. in Ancient times surrender did not mean giving up one's right for representation in the ruling body. And as in Ancient times both Shakiri, and Delenn would need be required to die in the Wheel of Fire because they had led each of the castes. And so the roof opened up into a tight circle, and light from the heavens shone down burning at the floor. As she stepped into the light she cried out in agony for the heat was enormous. she asked him to follow her in, or to allow the Religious people to decide upon the new ruling body. This was how things were done in the ancient times she did inform him. He followed her in, but the pain was too great, and he tried to get her to go out. If they went out together, they could rule together. S|he did not wish to do that. Therefore he stepped out, yet she stayed in. Neroon the Warrior was now fearful for the life of Delenn the Wise, as the Wheel of Fire began to grow. He spoke to Lennier Helper, and chose to save the life Delenn the Wise, even though he knew he would sacrifice his own life in doing so. Running into the burning Wheel of Fire, he picked up Delenn the Wise, and removed her from the light. Running back inside the Wheel of Fire he cried out, saying that his heart was truely religious. He soon disappeared in a gust of wind which took him to his rightful place in the heavens. Delenn the Wise then reformed the Ruling body. She made the Workers the main rulers for they were meek, and wanted only to serve, and to build a better people. To this day, Neroon remains revered for his wonderful act, and unsurpassed courage.
