From: "Julie" Subject: Fan Fiction - The Babylonian Cycle: The Tale of the Inquisition Date: Tue, 6 Jul 1999 17:40:43 -0400 This is another tale from the Babylonian cycle, a recounting of the = events in Babylon 5 as told from an Arthurian perspective. This is a = recounting of the episode Comes the Inquisitor of second season. If you = have not seen it, then this contains spoilers for that episode.=20 *********** The Babylonian Cycle The Tale of the Inquisition And it came to pas in the days of Sheradin the Great and Ivonava the = Strong, but before the days of the Great War, that Kosh the Elusive = needed confirmation on Delenn the Wise. For he needed to be sure that in = the coming days of the Great War that the right people would be in the = right place at the right time. And lo! To achieve this confirmation, Kosh sent forth for an inquisitor, = that he might acknowledge Delenn as the Chosen. And when the inquisitor = arrived, he was garbed in a manner centuries past, and spoke with an = accent of a distant land, and he was named Sebastian. And though = Sheradin the Great did try to gain information from Sebastian, the = information was not forthcoming. And yet in the end, Sheradin did let = Sebastian proceed, though he counseled Delenn not to partake in the = test. And yet Delenn, in her wisdom, knew that Kosh must receive confirmation, = for great plans were afoot, and these plans required a leader. And so = with great foreboding, Delenn did meet with Sebastian the Inquisitor. And Sebastian did force Delenn to wear metal manacles, for through these = he could induce pain in Delenn. And he did torment her, saying that she = could remove the manacles, though if she did this, she would proclaim = herself a failure, and unfit for the times ahead. And so Delenn was = faced with the cruel choice of accepting the domination of Sebastian or = admitting to failure. And Sebastian did ask Delenn the Wise, "Who are you?" And yet Delenn, in = all her wisdom, could find no answer to satisfy the inquisitor. And = though she named many responses, not one was to the liking of Sebastian. = And he tormented her, saying that theses were the titles while others = had given to her, and hot her true identity. And he did ask her if she = had one thing that was truly her own, and despite her wisdom, Delenn = found no answer. And again did Sebastian ask Delenn, "Who are you?" And Delenn said, "I = am Delenn." And Sebastian inflicted a great pain into Delenn, for he was = unhappy with her. And again Delenn repeated, "I am Delenn," and again = Sebastian sent a great pain into her, yet this time the pain was = greater. And Sebastian the Inquisitor did try to trick Delenn, and asked her if = she thought she was Chosen by the Universe. And he further said that if = Delenn was indeed Chosen, the Universe would surely protect her from = harm. And he said a great pain into Delenn, causing her to scream out in = pain, but no one came to her aid. And thus it continued for a long time. And one time, when Sebastian gave = Delenn a brief respite, Lennier Delenn=92s aid came and saw her, and = worry overcame him, and he begged Delenn to leave. But Delenn stayed. = And so Lennier sought out Sheradin the Great, and beseeched him to help = Delenn the Wise. And Sheradin agreed, and ran to Delenn=92s aid. And when he entered the inquisition area, he spoke firmly to Sebastian = and said to release Delenn. And Sebastian did ask of Sheradin the Great, = "What is she to you?" And instead of answering, Sheradin said, "I = don=92t have to answer any of your questions." And Sebastian smiled = slightly, and said, "No, you don=92t." And he sent a streak of fire = across the floor, so that it hit Sheradin, and he fell unconscious. And = when Sheradin did wake, he found that his hands were also in manacles, = and they were pinned to a wall, and Sebastian did begin his next = inquisition, that of Sheradin the Great. And Sheradin said nothing and did not cry out, though Sebastian = inflicted him with a great pain. And Delenn, who had not protested until = this point, did stand and say to Sebastian not to torment Sheradin, for = it was Delenn he had been sent to test. And Sebastian turned to her, and = asked what if he should kill her? What would become of her purpose in = the great plans of the Vorlons? And Delenn did not care. And further = Sebastian said to her that there would be no parades or glory for her, = that she would die alone and unmourned. And Delenn, with a fierce look = upon her face, did say, "Do you not understand? This is my purpose, to = save lives. Be it one life or a billion matters not." And Sebastian, = with an odd smile, waved his cane and he was gone. And Sheradin and Delenn found that the manacles had been removed from = their wrists and that they were free to leave. And they did meet Sebastian the Inquisitor, and he did say to them, = "When the Darkness comes, know this: you are the right people, in the = right place, at the right time." And with that, he left, and was not seen again. And as far as the great = plans of the Vorlons... well, that is another Tale for another time. ********** Julie :) Come to the Procrastinator's Aid!
