Holt beckihblumer@fuse.net Prologue- Tears in the Eyes of an Egyptian She lay back against the soft, downy mattress, sighing. It wasn't a sigh of relief or pleasure, but a long, drawn out, depressed sigh. She fingered the silver and sapphire medallion on its chain. Then brushed it aside, her coal black eyes welling up as she fingered the locket, engraved with a picture of the Virgin Mary. Opening it, her eyes beheld the only picture that she had of him. They stood together, amongst their friends, and while everyone else looked at the camera, arm in arm they looked at each other. She sighed again. "You're thinking about him again, aren't you?" her companion asked her, blue eyes shinning with curiosity. "How would you know?" she asked, as she propped herself up on her elbow. "You always get this starry, teary, far away look in your eyes when you're thinking about him." the blue eyed, black haired girl shook her head, and laid back on the bed across the room. "Romance doesn't work, doll face." "And you are an authority?" she asked, pointedly. He wasn't here to defend himself, so she'd do it for him. "Look, I'm not saying he's all bad, but..." the blue eyes spoke what the mouth didn't. Silence stretched between them. "Good night, Mystery." she said, then softly mouthed, "Good night, David, my love." "Good night, Lotus." Mystery said, and they both turned on their pillows and cried themselves to sleep. Part 1- Can't you do ANYTHING right? "Can't you do ANYTHING right?" David whined at his younger sister at the controls. She took a deep breath as she had seen her mother do so many times before and gave her 18 year-old brother a look that plainly said; "Oh, and you are perfect." "Sorry." he said softly. She considered putting a 'No Whining' sign up in the cockpit. Shaking her short, frizzy brown locks, Samantha Sheridan returned to her task; Getting back to their time. They were stuck in the tempral rift, and had been for three days (the Minbari magic number strikes again) Finally, she wired a switch and a anal retentive looking jump point formed. "Apparently I can do SOMETHING right." she spoke to her silent older brother. She guessed he wasn't used to taking care of her, because she was always taking care of him. Reaching out with her empathic powers, she looked for people in the area. Nothing, but the distant hum of a few minds on a near by planet. "The planet down there is our best bet to find out when we are." she suggested. He nodded mutely, it was his practice now, ever since Lotus. David had gotten stuck in time before, and been thrust into 2262. There he met a ranger named Lotus, and they had fallen in love. But Samantha had to bring him back, or he'd mess up time forever. The guilty feeling Samantha had still lingered, but she couldn't help it, some people were just star-crossed lovers. Sighing, she set back and instructed the computer to land them on the planet, close to where she felt the minds. Lotus stirred the fire and waited for Mystery to return, her thoughts, as always, returning to David. She supposed that she should be thankful to the technomages, like Mystery and Elric, who had taken her in after David went away. They told her that David had a second chance, but she did not, and if justice were to be served, then if he got one, then they would give her one. They had taken her in and taught her their secrets, then assigned her to Mystery so she could learn more one on one. Though she didn't appear to be so, Mystery was 219 years older then seventeen year old Lotus, and had a lot of wisdom locked in that head of hers. Lotus looked up, and saw a shooting star in the sky. "Starlight, star bright, first shooting star I see in this light, I wish I may, I wish that I might, have this wish I wish tonight." Lotus whispered softly as the fire crackled and the exotic birds sang, "I wish I could be with David again." If prayers are answered, then surely wishes on stars are equally considered? David Sheridan stepped out onto the springy alien grass, everything still came out in muted colors. He had never realized how much you could center your universe around one person, but he know understood how his father felt when he had to be separated from his mother for long periods of time. He'd give up almost anything to touch Lotus again, to feel her hot breath on his cheek, and her impossibly soft lips on his. Samantha stepped out beside him, always there, but respecting his pain and giving him his distance. She gestured towards where she told him the minds were and they traipsed into the jungle, in search of these beings. Samantha loved the jungle, it was very much alive with musky scents and little minds focusing on small things like hunger and territory. And David walked beside her, as usual, thinking thoughts of Lotus. As they reached the clearing, she felt another minds depressed humming. Humm, maybe David and the other could start a support group. Exotic scents rose from the cauldron over the fire, and a figure in a cloak stirred it. David's world suddenly returned to the land of color as he recognized the lithe form's grace and dancing movements. "Lotus!" he cried out and ran to the astonished girl in the middle of the clearing. In seconds he was there, his arms around her, swing her around as she laughed in glee and hugged him close. "David, how did you, why do?" Lotus asked in astonishment, her coal black eyes darker with love and questions. David's response was to hold her close and kiss her, full on the lips.....Samantha stood and watched, and in the shadows of the woods, some one else also did.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TO BE CONTINUED~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 2- A Mystery to me Coming Soon *************************** * If I live through this * * job without loosing my * * mind, it will be a * * miracle of BIBLICAL * * proportions! * * -Susan Ivonava * * * * There goes my faith in * * the Almighty! * * -Corwin * ***************************
