The Last Defense of Babylon 5 Part 1: The Opening Mr. Morden stepped off of the shuttle onto Babylon 5, he didn't like the station but he supposed it served some purpose. *You Bastard.* The voice of the man he was spoke through the cloud that the shadows had put in his mind. *You bastard, how can you live with yourself.* It would say. *You were so afraid of dying that you would help these things destroy everything.* Somewhere, deep down he felt remorse constantly, but that didn't stop them. It did not stop his keeper from pushing him on. Also, somewhere just as far down, he knew they would kill him when he was of no more use to them. After passing through security, Morden contacted Ambassador Molari. He explained that he must see him. They would meet in Corridor A-3, of Red 23, where they meet often. *** Londo Molari walked down the corridor in Red 23, he was surprised to hear from Morden, if he didn't not call Morden, many times he would just appear out of nowhere. Never before had Morden call him to meet. He walked into Corridor A-3. He called, "Mr. Morden?" Suddenly, the normal lighting went out, and the corridor took on a red glow. "Hello Londo." He said with that chilling smile he had. "Mr. Morden, what brings you here?" Londo said to his contact. "I came to tell you to get off the station. My, 'assoiciates' are about to get rid of some opposition in this region, and they do not wish you to get caught up in it. We can put together a story that would cover for you, if you wish." He folded his arms awaiting Londo response. "I do not understand, are you going to attack the station?" Morden nodded. "Why?" He said in that odd accent of his. "As I said, my associates have decided to get rid of their oppisition before they get out of hand." he said, only slightly annoyed. He began to walk off, but then said, as if it were an after thought. "You have four hours Molari, do not waste them." Morden turned the corned and he was gone. Londo knew Morden did not joke when he said that he had four hours. So, as quickly as he could he made it back to his quarter, and packed what few things he wanted to have, and a change of cloths. He contacted Vir, and lied saying they had just been called back to Centari Prime, on business and must leave in the next two hours, for they had just three hours left. Vir bought the lie, he made all the arrangments, packed in record time, and two hours later stood at the air lock, useing their diplomatic immunity to pass through security. Vir the turned to his mentor, "Londo, in all the rush you never explained why we're leaving." Londo looked Vir in the eye, and said coldly, "Something terrible is about tto transpire Vir, and events call for us to be away from here before they do." Vir stepped back, afraid of what terrible events were about to take place. As their shuttle sped towards the jumpgate, Londo looked at the Station with the grim realization that he would never see it again. Morden assoiciates were very thurogh, and if Mordon said they were going to clear away some oppisition, that meant that, Babylon 5. The last, best hope for peace, was about to be just a memory. As he realize that, he wept. Vir looked at his friend, he also knew that the terrible events Londo spoke about involved the Station, he only hope that it was Londo who asked his friends to do them. Looking at his friend, he knew that Londo was only their pawn. That they were all pawns, Londo, him, Morden, in a much larger deadly game. ***End Part 1.*** From RONPEGT@aol.com Sun Aug 4 00:45:35 1996 Date: Thu, 20 Jun 1996 17:19:37 -0400 From: RONPEGT@aol.com Reply-To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com Subject: The Last Defense of Babylon 5 (Part 2.) The Last Defense of Babylon 5 Part 2: The Battle Commander Susan Ivonova stood at the observation dome in C and C, as she always did, she found the view comforting. It was one of the few things in her life that was comforting, after all in the last year, she had discovered the excistance of an ancient race bent on evil, watched as the Centari destroied the Narn, learned that the assassination of President SanTiago was masteminde by current President Clark, found love with Talia and had that taken away, and broken away from Earth. In short, the universe from her view turned on its ear, but at least the view was nice. She looked around the Bridge, Lt. Corwin stood at his post monitoring for scheduled and unscheduled jumps. Technitions all doing their job, making reports to senior officers, thing had begun to run smoothly again. In his office, Captain Sheridan was talking to Delenn on the White Star, she was happy for the Captain. At the same time, she was mad at the universe for playing this joke on her. The universe was cruel enough to keep "All alone in a crowd" as the saying went. An alarm went off at Corwin's station, Ivonova spun around and saw the blood leave Corwin's face. "Huge jump point 2000 kilometers to port." He said. The Captain heard this and went over to the command station by Ivonova. "Show me." He said. The veiwscreen showed one of the largest Jump points Sheridan had ever seen. Pouring out of it was Shadow vessel after shadow vessel. "Scramble all fighters, Battle stations. Activate Defense grid." This sight horrified Ivonova, she had never seen that many Shadows, they kept pouring out of the Jump Point. "Give me, Garibaldi." The Captain barked. The commications officer responded, "Here he is, sir." "Michael, we've got a huge problem, I want your people in riot gear, be prepared to repell boarders." He said, to the image of Garibaldi on the screen. "What is it, Clark?" He asked. "No, I wish it was though. It's the Shadows cheif, more than I had ever seen." Garibaldi seemed to black out for a second. He remembered the fire fight he saw when he was on Babylon 4. He knew what was coming. He looked off screen to whoever he was talking to, then stammered, "I'm-m on it." The screen blinked out. "Starfurys away Captain, the Minbari cruisers, and the White Star have engaged the Shadow vessel. The Drazi cruiser has already been destroied." Ivonova reported. "They're consentrating on the cruisers for now, probably leaving us for later. The Minbari have sent for reinforcements, suggesting we do the same." *** Garibaldi looked at Sinclair, they both knew the outcome of this. They feared this day for two years. "I realy wish you hadn't have come here, you know how this is going to end." He said to his old friend. "Michael, I know you think if I had stayed away, that this would not have happened, but we both know that they would have come after us sooner or later. I geuss it's sooner rather than later. My rangers and I, are going to need some riot gear as well. We will help however we can." Sinclair said. *** Delenn sat in the command chair of the White Star, as it engaged the Shadows. She watched as their first shot destroied the Drazi cruiser. The Minbari cruisers were built to battle the Shadows, so they were putting up quite a fight but they were outnumbered, and it would not be long before the Shadows would overrun them. "Foward batteries fire!" she said. The White Star fired a burst of energy at one of the Shadow vessels cutting one of it's *legs* off of the main body of the ship. "Direct hit, it did some damage, but I think we've angered it more than anything." Marcus said from his station. With that, the Shadow vessel returned fire, the blast caused an overload in the comupter system, and short-circuited the station Lennier stood, the blast killed him and the technition who worked by Lennier. "LENNIER!" Delenn called out, her assistant lying on the ground dead. "All bateries, open fire. We will avvenge our fallen commrades!" The White Star opened fire on the attacking shadow vessel with its full fury. The Shadow went critical and shattered with a scream thatpierced every mind on the White Star. *** Sheridan watching the carnage take place in front of him, seen the White Star's kill. He had a small bit of satisfaction. "Alpha squadren, reporting that they've lost their lead. All Squadrens are taking heavy losses." Corwin reported. "Fire control, open fire, all Bateries, consentrate on the Capital ships. Leave the smaller ships for the fighters." Sheridan said. "Jump point opening to Starboard. Three incoming Minbari Cruisers, they are engaging Shadow vessels." Ivonova said. "One of the Minbari cruisers is going critical, they abandoning ship." As she said the Cruiser went up in a cloud of supreheated expanding gas. Damaging two Shadow vessels that were to close. An officer from the lower deck reported, "Fire control has opened fire sir. They report some damage to the Attacking vessels." "Continue firing." Sheridan said, "Don't let up for a second. Tell them to watch for boarding vessels, take them out as quickly as possible." He said to the officer. Corwin spoke up again. "Beta squadren reports, Delta Squadren has been completely wiped out, and Zeta squadren has taken 60% losses." He said. "Sir, they won't last long at this rate. We must withdraw fighters." Sheridan looked up for a sign, it was going bad. Their fighters were being routed, the Minbari were putting up a fight, but they won't last to long. The Shadows were overpowering them. "We cannot withdraw, the Shadows are going to continue to come at us. Start getting civilians off the station. Susan, make an annoucment, all off duty personel are to go through riot porceedures, prepare them to repell boarders, evacuate the civilians to the planet, we'll have to hope Draal can defend them." He said. Then, another of the Minbari vessels exploded. The Captain realized just how hopeless things had become. He looked, and the White Star taking heavy damage. "open a channel to the White Star." Corwin nodded to Sheridan, to say that the channel was open. "Delenn?" Marcus' face came up on the screen, he hair matted with blood, and burns on his face. "Delenn is dead,...." That statement physically hurt Sheridan, "and I'm afraid we won't be far behind, our reactor is leaking we're about to go critical. I want to say good-bye, Captain. But, I fear that we will be seeing each other all too.... AHHHH!" The screen blinked. Sheridan looked out and seen the White Star explode. With it, Delenn, the Minbari he loved. "Captain, the other Minbari vessals are taking severe damage. They won't last long." Corwin reported. "Niether will we, it looks." Ivonova said. "Starfuries have taken 90% losses." "Recall furies, we'll needed people to help fight those monsters, when they try to board us." Sheridan said. "We need to buy as much time for the civilians as we can." The Minbari fought to the very last, but outnumbered, the shadows eventually destroied them. Then, they turned towards thei next target, Babylon 5 itself. ***End Part 2.*** From RONPEGT@aol.com Sun Aug 4 00:45:40 1996 Date: Fri, 21 Jun 1996 13:06:59 -0400 From: RONPEGT@aol.com Reply-To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com Subject: Fwd: The Last Defense of Babylon 5 (Part 3) --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: The Last Defense of Babylon 5 (Part 3) Date: 96-06-20 17:59:39 EDT From: RONPEGT Here's Part 3 of 4. The writer intends to make no profit from this story. With all that said. Enjoy. The Last Defense of Babylon 5 Part 3: The Overrun Captain John Sheridan looked at the scene in horror, the White Star, a Drazi cruiser, five Minbari warships, and countless Starfuries were now nothing but debris. Now, the Shadow vessels turned towards the Station. "Close blast door!" The door in front of the Observation dome shut. "Attention all stations, prepare for attack!" "The Shadow vessels are moving into attack position." Ivanova said from her position in the Captain's office. "They're firing!" Lt. Corwin called out in urgency. "All interceptors, fire!" The Captain barked. The interceptors fired into the blasts, negating them. The Shadows continued to fire, their targets were obvious, the defense grid. The interceptors were beginning to overheat, some shutting down from the strain, in those spots, the Shadows concentrated their fire. "Incoming!" Corwin said. The blast rocked the station, tossing people. Corwin got to his feet. "Report from fire control. They say rear port interceptors are down, they say weapons station there are taking severe damage." He said. "Continue firing all stations, if I'm going to hell I'm taking as many of them with me as I can." Sheridan barked. The Shadows were surgical in their strikes. A group of interceptors would overheat and shut down, and they would swoop in and blast the weapons in that area until they were disabled. It continued like that for almost an hour. Sheridan had to commend them for their tactics. "Enemy fire has taken sixty percent off the weapons grid off-line." Ivanova said. "At this rate, the defense grid will collapse it approximately seven minutes." Things were looking worse by the minute. "Forward interceptors just went off line." She said. "Here they come." The Shadows moved with incredible swiftness at taking out the forward defenses. But, unlike their previous strikes, they continued firing. Their main target was C and C. The blasts rocked C and C, it looked as if the bulkhead might collapse. "Incoming!" Corwin called, the blast causing a massive explosion. Corwin, and Sheridan took the full force of the blast. "Captain!" Ivanova jumped from her post. When she looked at him, she knew he was dead before he hit the deck, as there a large piece of shrapnel going his upper spine. He probably never knew what hit him. She felt tears burn her eyes, tears of anger. She would be killed by those monsters, but she was going to be on a full boat to hell. She looked over to a technician that was checking on Corwin, he was just as dead. "Commander, defense grid has collapsed, the Capital ships are releasing some sort of boarding vessels." a crewman said from her post. "Attention, prepare to repel boarders. Repeat, prepare to repel boarders." *** Garibaldi heard Ivanova's voice on the PA it meant one thing, the Captain was dead. He couldn't let them come aboard, and overrun the station. "All right, everybody. Let's go!" He said to his people as they mobilized to where the Shadows were breaching the. "This is Garibaldi to G'Kar, your people ready?" He said into his link. G'Kar responded from where his team had mobilized to. *We're ready Garibaldi.* He pressed his link to bring up Zack Allen. "Garibaldi to Allen, Zack you in position?" *We are chief.* "Garibaldi to team three, Lou, you ready." *Team three, standing by." "Jeff, your Rangers ready?'' *We are Michael.* "All teams, remember, we want to protect the launch area as long as possible. Good luck!" He said a small prayer, "Garibaldi out." G'Kar's team was the first to receive boarders, he and his Narn warriors fought valiantly. Refusing to give, so much as an inch. The Shadows breached the hull in Zack's area next. They fought bravely. Zack, called G'kar to get him to fall back and form up, but G'Kar was dead. His second agreed and the two teams met up at Red 8. It was a fire fight all over the station, Garibaldi could feel just how evil these things were as he used a computer to rig the fusion reactor to build up an overload on his command. Sixty seconds after he gave the command, the station would become a five mile long Nuclear bomb. Garibaldi's team met up with Zack's and G'Kar's team, and trapped the Shadows on level eight. They all knew it was temporary, the Shadows were all ready burning through the blast hatch. They braised themselves.... *** Ivanova stood alone in C and C, it was in shambles. So was she, she had a gash on her shoulder, and her forehead, she sent everyone else off, they could help with the defense, or they could leave it was there choice. Her place was here, if she would die it would be on deck. She listened to the reports from Garibaldi's team it was going well. Mike had temporarily cut them off on level eight, G'Kar was dead. Lou's team was falling back to green five. Jeff and his rangers were going to meet up with Welch on blue six. She found herself weeping, the Shadows continued to board the ship. They wouldn't last much longer.... *** Garibaldi held his friend, Zack Allen in his arms. "Talk to me, Zack. C'mon, don't leave just yet." Zack was hurt bad. Other security people pulled at him, Michael wouldn't budge. "Sorry chief,... I'm done......... You gotta go!.....GO!" Zack said to him. Zack inhaled one last time, then the breath shuttered out of him in a moan. Garibaldi, was stunned for a second, he got to his feet and ran for cover. It wasn't supposed to end this way, we were supposed to win. He thought. "FALL BACK! We'll form up in blue section, try to box 'em in again." Then the group of Narns and humans fell back, to try and block them off. He knew it was hopeless, his thoughts focused though. It was just like he had foreseen it. They made it to blue section. And lasted their way to the blast doors. They shut, and again the Shadows pounded for a moment, then began to cut through the hatch. The Shadows burned through a little quicker, the group fought their way to the Zocalo, which had much thicker blast doors. The Zocalo was where they would dig in and fight to the last man. The last few civilians were making a mad dash to the shuttles, everyone knew as Garibaldi knew, Babylon 5 was doomed. He saw Sinclair, he looked winded, all the fighting must be rough on him. Sinclair came over to him. "They've burned through levels seven and eight, can't stop 'em. They're everywhere!" He said, just as before. "Garibaldi!" Sinclair responded. "Look! I've rigged the fusion reactor, so there's not much time, so get going! I'll hold 'em as long as I can." When Sinclair didn't move, Garibaldi got angry. "Look, c'mon! This isn't a conversation! Jeff it's okay. I finally understand! This is the moment I was born for! Now go! Go! GO!!" He yelled, as began to fire at the Shadows who were about to make it through. Sinclair got caught up in the rush of people getting off the station. "Wait! Wait!" He called out, he reached for his old friend. "They're coming through....." Were the last words he heard Garibaldi. He was rushed into the last shuttle off the station, which launched almost immediately. *** "They're coming through! Everybody get ready." Garibaldi counted thirty seconds, sufficient time for the shuttles to launch. He then pressed the button on his link. "Computer, activate destruct sequence. Password: Peek-a-Boo." His link responded, "Destruct sequence activated, be ginning sixty second count down." With that, to be safe, Garibaldi threw his link to the deck, and stomped because his link was the only one the count down could be stopped from. "Sixty seconds to hell!" He said and opened fire on the Shadows that were coming through. *** On C and C, Ivanova was launching the last few shuttles off the station. She had to get help, even if she wouldn't be there when it came. "Computer, prepare to transmit, on all frequencies." She punched in the sequence to transmit. "They're coming through! Repeat, they're coming through! This is Earth Alliance station, Babylon 5" She began to feel the tears burn in her eyes again. "They're all over the place. They're killing us! Can anyone hear me?! They're killing us!" She was become a bit dizzy from the loss of blood, she looked and seen that Garibaldi had activated the countdown. "Does anyone out there hear me?! Can anyone help us?!" She leaned against the console for a brace. "This is Commander Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5. To any ship in grid Epsilon. We are under attack. I repeat, we are under attack!" She had obviously lost alot of blood, because she almost felt giddy. "The Captain's dead...... Defense grid is down...... They're boarding us! They're coming in all over the place. We've tried to evacuate as many as we can, and Garibaldi has rigged the fusion reactor, but...." Her sensors went wild. "Oh my god, here they come. Switch to external cameras....." The Shadows were coming in for another pass. Susan wept. The count was at twenty seconds. "They've got weapons lock...." Fifteen seconds.... "Here comes....." Ten....... "Here it comes....." Five seconds..... The fusion reactors went critical. "AHHHH!" With the final words of Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5, the last best hope for peace, erupted in to a nuclear explosion. The last shuttle to get off the station carried, Ambassador Jeffery Sinclair who wept for the loss of the station, the crew, and his closest friend, Michael Garibaldi. The shuttle head for the surface of the planet below..... ***End of Part 3*** From RONPEGT@aol.com Sun Aug 4 00:45:42 1996 Date: Fri, 21 Jun 1996 13:07:17 -0400 From: RONPEGT@aol.com Reply-To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com To: b5-creative@lists1.best.com Subject: Fwd: The Last Defense of Babylon 5 (Part 4) --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: The Last Defense of Babylon 5 (Part 4) Date: 96-06-20 17:59:40 EDT From: RONPEGT This is it, part four of four.
