Holt beckihblumer@fuse.net ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I have once heard it said that the mirror is man's own invention, a window to see into the soul. I don't believe that. For the mirror reflects only what we have, so how can we see anything else? But what if it was more then that, what if it not only reflected what we have, but rarefracted what we don't? What if, it was more then a window, what if it was a doorway.... to the other side. - Autumn Cross, "A Contemplation of Life" Published 2250, shortly after the end of the E/M war. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Babylon 5- 2261 (Mirror Side- Right) "Good morning, the time is 05:00 hrs. You have three messages, one from Marcus Cole, one from Ambassador Delenn, one from Captain...." "SHUT UP!" Susan Ivanova shouted at the computer. She hadn't had much sleep the night before, and waking up was the last thing on her mind. But her sense of duty forced her up, and rubbing her eyes, she stumbled into the bathroom and turned on the water. The cool liquid instantly woke her up, and now all she needed was her coffee to make her ready to face the day. She quickly changed into her uniform, braided her hair, moving to take a look in the mirror before grabbing her coffee and leaving for the war room. The BabCom unit bleeped at her insistently. "Yes?" she asked, angry that some one had interrupted her twenty minutes of peace before she went on duty. "Commander, sorry to bother you, but I thought I should inform you that we're reading usually high levels of tacion relays from the planet below. Draal isn't responding to our signals." The nervous Ltd. Corwin reported. Susan's demeanor immediately changed. "That's odd." she said. Draal was a strange old bird, but he was also a responsible Minbari. "I reported it to the Captain," Corwin continued, "He wants you and Ranger Cole to go down and check on it." Susan nearly dropped her coffee mug. "Excuse me?" "I said that...." "Never mind! I heard you." Susan said angrily. "He's on his way down to get you." Corwin added, looking as if he feared for his very life. "All right, is that all?" Her second nodded, and Susan clapped her hand to her forehead as soon as the screen went blank. Marcus. For some reason, John always enjoyed sending them on missions together. Yes, Susan liked the man, he was annoying and funny, she even considered him a friend but.... Shaking her head, Susan checked in the mirror. It's surface waved oddly as she gazed at the hard nosed woman reflected there in. --------------------------- Babylon 5- 2259 (Mirror Side- Left) The alarm in the other room sounded softly, and Susan Ivanova moaned softly, burrowing deeper under the covers, and closer to her sleeping husband. "Susan, love, you need to get up." Marcus reminded her softly. "Urrrgh..." she moaned again. He merely laughed and pulled the covers away from them both, lifting her out of bed and putting her back down. "There, now you're out of bed." he laughed. "Alright! I'm up." she shook her head, but couldn't help her laughter. "Good-morning." she said softly, giving him a quick kiss, or at least that's what she intended. But taking advantage, Marcus slid his arms around her, pulling her closer. "Good morning to you too." he smiled. "Hey, I thought you said I had to get up. And it wouldn't look to good if the Security Chief was late for her own meeting. I really do need to go." Susan laughed, but she didn't move away. He reluctantly released her, and she moved to go take her shower. He too, after all, had to get down to the Cobra bays. He had a few new Starfury pilots to train, and in two days time. He was almost done with breakfast, when she emerged from the bathroom. The two of them quickly got dressed, but were interrupted by the BabCom bleeping. "Yes?' Susan asked, hunting around for her meeting agenda. "Hey Chief." Her second, Lyta Alexander, stared out at her. "Yes, Lyta?" Susan asked, moving into view. "C&C detected some unusual tacion disturbances coming from the planet below. It'd wrecking havoc on our security cameras. Captain Winters thought you should know." "All right? Anything else?" "Is Marcus there?" Lyta asked. "Yeah?" Marcus moved into view as well. "Captain Winters has canceled all Starfury training today, she's afraid that the abnormalities will interfere." Marcus nodded, and the screen winked out. "Looks like I've got nothing to do today." "Yeah, well." Susan muttered, taking a look in the mirror. "I could always come and bug you." he whispered in her ear, coming up behind her. The mirror before them rippled with blue light, and suddenly Susan screamed. --------------- Right Side The door chime was bleeping at her when awareness returned. Susan looked around. Where the hell was she? The last thing she remembered, she and Marcus had been talking and..... Dear Lord, where was he? The door chime bleeped again. "Yes? Come." she called out. Marcus stood in the door way. What was he wearing? It wasn't his usual flight suit, or anything else he owned. "Susan, are you all right?" he asked. She realized she was on the floor. "Fine. Where did you go?" she asked. The last thing.... wait a second. "Computer, date please?" "Tuesday, May 13th, 2261." the monotone voice rang out. <2261.> she thought. These weren't the quarters she shared with Marcus. She looked down at her uniform, not the gray of security, but the blue of command.... "Susan? Babylon control to Susan?" Marcus was waving his hand in front of her face. "I'm sorry. Um..." she fumbled with an excuse. Her head hurt terribly. "Come on, Captain Sheridan wants us at the docking bay in twenty minutes." Marcus helped her up. Sheridan? But he was a doctor... This was all a very bad dream. "All right." She mumbled, taking his arm, "Let's go." But Marcus didn't move. She looked back, and saw that he was starring at her hand, placed on his upper arm. But she didn't remove it, only tugged him along with her. Marcus followed with a baffled expression on his face. Something weird was going on..... ------------- Left Side. "Susan? Susan!?" Some one was calling her, their worried voice penetrating the darkness that surrounded her body in a suffocating blanket. "What?" she moaned. Strong arms held her tight, lifting her and then putting her down again. She opened her eyes, and found herself looking into the worried eyes of Marcus Cole. She tried to sit up, but her body refused to move. "Thank God." he said softly. "I'm going to go call Dr. Sheridan, you stay right here." He told her. She nodded breathlessly. Then her mind traveled back a few sentences. What the hell was going on here? She took a good look around the room. It certainly wasn't her's, and neither was the big four poster bed she was laying on. Looking down at her body, Susan saw it clothed not in the Army of Light Uniform, but the gray of Earth Force Security. "Marcus!?" she called out, fear clutching her insides and threatening to turn them inside out. "Yes, love?" he said as he came back in.
