Holt beckihblumer@fuse.net Chapter 2- What was Warm, What is Cold. Part 2- Birth in a place of death John did sincerely enjoy his time with the Holt-Stargates, and promised to come back soon. Aleia had a feeling he might suspect them, but it was worth it to read what she saw behind his eyes. He was THE ONE WHO WOULD BE. She knew it. And as soon as she did, as soon as everyone left, she put Sofie to bed and headed for the Alien Sector. She placed a breather unit on, and entered the hallway to Kosh's quarters. She sat in front of the door and waited. All the while seeing patterns of destruction is the swirling gas. About twenty minutes later, Kosh arrived, his bulky suit moving down the hall. His turned toward her sharply. "I know." Aleia said simply, with out ceremony. "He is the one, is he not? He is the one who will bring balance, the Man of Chaos who will bring order to the galaxy?" "Do not interfere." Kosh said, as sharply as one could in an encounter suit. "To late! I know, you know, hell, I think Sofie knows. Answer me when I talk to you!" Aleia said, fast loosing patience with Kosh's pride. She knew him for what he was, she had seen it in a vision so many times. "Who are you?" Kosh asked. "I am shade, and breeze, and something that should not be but is. I'm tired of your games, Kosh, I've watched you over the past year. You are NOT God!" Aleia fairly screamed at him. She knew she was tempting fate. "Infantile!" Kosh blared at her and she felt her wind pipe begin to close. She stood there and took it, she didn't know how and she didn't know why, but she had a feeling that this was what she was supposed to do. "I...know...you." she said, choking on her own blood. "Please....don't. Its not...too..late." Suddenly, her wind pipe was freed and Kosh was looking at her strangely, as one can with an encounter suit. "Will you teach her?" Aleia asked as she righted herself. "Yes." "Good" Aleia said simply and took her leave of the odd alien and his temper. After that, every Wednesday after noon, Aleia would bring Sofie to see Kosh. She stayed with her, to make sure Kosh didn't hurt her. Sofie didn't like the Vorlon all that much, but she put up with him just as Aleia did. Strangely, Sofie didn't seem affected by these lessons, she seemed just like the carefree girl she had always been. But John Sheridan knew that Aleia and Sofie were visiting Kosh, and Aleia knew that soon, he would approach her about it. But on the lighter side of things, Michael had improved and was out of the comma, and Aleia allowed herself to hope that things might go back to normal. "Aleia, can I have a word with you?" John said as he ran to catch up with her. She and Sofie were on their way to see Kosh once more. "Yes?" Aleia asked innocently as she handed Sofie and small breather and took one herself. "Why are you seeing Kosh so much? You come here every Wednesday, at the same time, 1300 hours on the dot. Why?" he asked her. "Well, kosh doesn't like us to be late." Aleia said, carefully avoiding the topic. "Aleia!" "Okay, Kosh is teaching Sofie." Aleia told him with great reluctance. "Teaching her what?" John asked, curious. "To use her abilities and to shield so that the Psi Cops can't read her and figure out that she's a teep." Aleia told him. He seemed satisfied with that, and Aleia grabbed Sofie's hand and bravely knocked on Kosh's door. The next two months, though they seemed heck tick for the command crew, where no where near that for Aleia. She was trying to organized her own wedding, take care of Sofie and Anakin, and care for one heavily pregnant Starry, plus work at the store and the bar. It was crazy. Then, she got the word from Susan, that a Psi Cop called Bester was coming to the station. Aleia was in the shop when Susan gave her the call to warn her. He would be docking in less then an hour, and Aleia knew that she didn't have much time. She pulled out her cell phone and called Rose. "Rosy, its Aleia. A Psi Cop is coming to the station in less then an hour, can you get down here and manage while I find Sofie and Anakin?" Aleia asked over the phone. "Sure thing, Aleia. Do you want me to put in a call to Elly as well, warn her too?" Rose's disembodied voice came over the speaker. "Yes. I know that Lyssa and Jan took Sofie to the park, do you know where Anakin is?" "Yeah, he's with Kitty, she got a new shipment in and a venders paying him extra today. He should be done by now though." Rose informed her. "Thanks Rose. Bye." Aleia terminated the call and set out in search of Anakin, all the while wondering how Elly was gonna break the new to Stephen. They had been running the under ground rail road through Babylon 5, and she knew that they were going to have to warn the passengers and the runner and find a way to get them out of this tin can. She wasn't looking where she was going and she bumped into Ms. Winters. "Oh, excuse me, Ms. Holt-Stargate." Talia said softly as Aleia backed away as quickly as possible, not allowing Talia any time to scan her. "My fault, I wasn't looking where I was going." Aleia said as she left in a hurry. "Anakin!" Aleia called out to her son across the expanse of the Zocolo. "Mere?!" What is it? Whats wrong?" the fourteen year-old boy asked from where he was sitting with Kitty, enjoying his lunch. "A Psi Cop is docking in less then a half an hour! I want you to go home and lock the doors, okay. I've got to go get Sofie!" Aleia hissed to him as soon as she got close enough. "Got cha!" Anakin told his mother, as he set down his plate, grabbed his bag and made a dash for the door. "Sofie!" Aleia, Lyssa and Jan called out in the gardens. Sofie was obviously thinking it was funny to hide from her worried care takers. *Sofie, please! Its important!* Aleia called out to the child with her mind. A head of brown curls popped up out of the bushes and the child revealed herself. Aleia scooped her up. "Don't scare me like that again!" Aleia admonished her. *Sorry Mere.* the little girl said. "Its alright, baby." Aleia said, then spoke into the child's mind as she ran down the hall towards home, with Lyssa and Jan behind her. *Listen baby, a bad man is coming to the station. I want you and Anakin to stay at home, don't mind-talk, use the sign language I'm teaching you. Stay there until I tell you its okay, understand, Sofie?* she asked, more sharply then she meant to. Sofie signed. The girl was getting the hang of it. Aleia changed into an old over coat and tied her hair up, so she could go into down-bellow. She stopped a wall the with initials LF spray painted on it. She knew what it stood for; Live Free. The sound of dripping water and rats was scaring her, but she had to do this. She tapped harshly, three times, then six times, then twice. In a few moments, a woman with ratty brown braids appeared. "Stephanie, a Psi Cop is coming. He'll be here soon. Franklin warned the runner, and you guys have gotta get outa here." "Thanks Ally." Stephanie said, as she touched her abdomen fearfully. "How far along are you?" Aleia asked gently. "'bout four months. I'm afraid, Ally, what if they catch us, I want my baby to grow up free." Stephanie said, fear in her eyes testifying her statement. "Its okay, Stephanie, we've got half of you set up to be smuggled to Drosi, the rest to Orian 4" Aleia told her as she slipped the flimsiplast information into the woman's rough hand. "Live Free!" Stephanie said softly. "Live Free!" Aleia chorused, and then she left, praying that they make it with all her heart. Aleia was working the shop the next morning when she saw the Psi Cop and Ms. Winters meandering toward her shop. she thought, knowing she was far enough away that neither of them could hear her. She clamed up as they got closer, and went into the back room to compose herself. The bell for service rang. Sure enough, it was them. "Ms. Winters, sir, what can I do for you today?" Aleia asked, all politeness. "Well, I'm here to pick up the new pair of gloves that you order for me." Talia said. "Oh, yes." Aleia, avoiding eye contact with the Psi Cop, "They're in the back, I'll get them for you." she left and came back in a few seconds with a black cardboard box. Inside were the gloves. "Thank you." Talia said as Aleia turned her attention to the Psi Cop. "Can I do anything for you, sir?" She asked, her tongue like acid in her own mouth. She knew he wasn't scanning her yet, and was doing her best to keep her mind normal, so much was at stake. "I'm looking for a gift for my wife." he stated simply. Aleia thought silently. Still he didn't hear her. "Oh, what kind of gift?" she asked. "Jewelry, a bracelet perhaps." the Psi Cop said. "I might have just the thing." Aleia said as she slipped into the back room. she thought quietly. She rummaged through some boxes and found a bracelet made of cut pearls and black diamonds. She brought it out and displayed it before him. "Ahh, very nice, I'll take it." he said with conviction as he handed his credit chit to her. She took it and ran it through the scanner. "That will be 330 credits." she told him pleasantly while they waited for it to process. It was thirty credits more then she would have charged any one else. He still wasn't going to scan her. Good. "Thank you, Ms...?" the Psi Cop asked. "Oh, its nothing of any conscience." Aleia didn't want him to have her name. Talia handed Aleia her credit chit to pay for the gloves. "Ms. Holt-Stargate." Talia addressed her. Aleia thought, but luckily, there was still no scan from the Psi Cop, though. "Where is that charming daughter of yours?" Talia asked, referring to Sofie, who sometimes helped Aleia in the store. "Oh, she's sick...some bug that's going around. My son is taking care of her." Aleia lied. That caught the Psi Cop's attention. She felt his mind poking at hers, trying to get in past the barbed wire and fences she had mentally put up. She fought him out, putting up dikes and high walls. "Bastard." she seethed. He heard her, but said nothing. Talia finished paying and they walked off. Aleia caught a name for the Psi Cop, though; Bester. she thought loudly. He heard her and turned around. She smiled sweetly, but it dripped with acid and sarcasm. They walked away and Aleia felt a stab of fear in her hear. The bastard was dangerous.
