Wars have come and gone, and destinies have concluded.  But a young woman
called upon to act, beyond her years, is about to find her *true* calling.
And over the five years to come, a new saga will be revealed, a memory of
what was, a part of the Book of the Observer yet unseen...

It is the Earth Year 2267, and in the aftermath of the Drakh attack on
Earth, the Entil'zha of the Rangers assembles a bright, young crew of
Anla'shok to  perform a duty far beyond their years...for a new ship has
been given into their care...a very *special* ship.  This starship shares
many of the characteristics of its White Star predecessors, but having also
been used as a test bed during the design and construction of the enormous
flagship of the Crusade...the starship EXCALIBUR, there are things this
ship can do that even the designers would not have suspected.

This vessel of space is twice the size of any White Star, with FAR more
then twice the firepower; and those are only the most visible attributes.
It is unique...one of a kind, for another will never be built.  And as the
men and women of the Earth Alliance crew the EXCALIBUR and proceed on their
mission, the Rangers of Earth, and Minbar, as well, will do the same on
their command.

The name of their ship is Vi'dalae An'shaka; a Minbari name, dark and
preordained.  The name has been held by two Minbari warships of the line
before this vessel; both have fallen to fates perilous and final.

The name of this command, in the tongue of Mankind...

Is SHARD OF NIGHT.

Their commander is also one of a kind; the youngest Ranger to ever wear the
sigil of the Anla'shok, and youngest, also, in her present rank.  A Ranger
trained by Jeffrey Sinclair, Delenn of Mir, and, of course, the famous
White Star Fleet commnder, William Westcastle...the Rimstalker, and his
constant companion, the Observer.

Her name is Julia Tikopai.  An Observer born, hers is the legacy of a race
now banished from the galaxy forever.  Having witnessed the primary events
of the Great War first hand, Julia is now almost twenty years old, and due
to the gifts of the now legendary Vorlon, Kosh, appears five years older
then that.  Intelligent, gifted, and damned to follow a prophecy like those
who have trained her, Julia's actions over the years to come will determine
whether or not the mission of the SHARD OF NIGHT will be remembered for its
legacy...

Or its infamy.

Together with her crew of Human, Minbari and others among the Rangers,
Julia will take her command to some of the darkest, strangest, and most
familiar points of call, in search of the thing that all now seek.

The thing which has called a *Crusade* into being.
