What if Susan Ivonava had gotten captured along with Zathras in 'War Without End part 2'? S P O I L E R W A R N I N G & M O R E Hello, If you're still here then may the deity of your choice bless you! I thought this up last night while watching 'War Without End' part 2. I started to wonder, what if Ivonava had been captured and met Jeff from 2258. My twisted mind strikes again. Oh, and my compliments to who ever wrote 'Just One More Wonderful Surprise." I loved it! Thanks to Adam and Stephy Rose for beta reading. Oh, I have an up date on 'Utter Chaos', to any one who is reading the G.H. Cross over Liz Ironheart and I are writing together. Liz probably isn't going to be able to finish co-writing it, but good news is, Stephy Rose is going to co-write it instead! Any way, any and all comments and questions to beckihblumer@fuse.net. Holt beckihblumer@fuse.net "To Everything there is a Season....a time for War"- Ecclesiastes 3:8 Susan Ivonava worked with the ruthless efficiency that she was known for, and even more so today. She didn't want to think, and if she worked hard enough, she wouldn't have to think, and then she might escape the fact that Jeff wouldn't be coming back from this mission. Unfortunately, her companion didn't seem to be thinking about her, and was mumbling things about 'poor Zathras' this, and 'Zathras never have anything nice' that. It was enough to drive anyone who used the words 'I' and 'We' to the brink of insanity. "Have you found the parts we need to fix the Captain's stabilizer yet?" Susan asked for the seventy second time, but then, who was counting. "Zathras not find now, soon. Zathras looking." the raccoon creature mumbled. Maybe he was just as annoyed with her as she was with him. "Well hurry!" she told him harshly, "We don't have a lot of time!" "Time? There is infinite time, you are finite, Zathras is finite." he said as he considered a tool, "This is wrong tool." Susan hit herself upside the head in frustration. How did Draal deal with Zathras? Suddenly, there was a burst of light, which went around, and through her, penetrating her to the core, and looking in on all her secrets. She couldn't hide from it... ****She was laying in med-lab, a massive tangle of wires and cables about her body. She felt cold, and tired. She wanted to close her eyes so bad...She heard a noise, then a whole lot more of it, like some one was crashing around. Then she heard the familiar sound of a pike extending. The noise continued a while longer, and then in her limited field of vision, Marcus appeared, carrying some sort of machine. He came over to her bed and set in down on the end. Her eyes were half swollen closed, and she knew he thought she was sleeping. She could see his eyes, full of tenderness and...love?..looking down on her. His fingers reached into the web of wires and tubes that encased her and searched for a pulse. A look of relief flooded over him as he found one. He looked on her a moment longer before setting to work on the machine. At last he had them both hooked up, and the machine whirring softly as he sat beside her. His hand stroked the side of her face, her hair, and her lips. "You'll never know." he said softly, staking his head. She wanted to scream at him, ask him what he was doing, what he meant, but her voice would not come, and as she felt herself pulled down, her last thoughts were questions about Marcus, and her last sight before she closed her heavy lidded eyes was of Marcus looking down at her....***** The vision ended and she was back in the conference room with Zathras. He looked a bit disoriented also. "What the hell was that!?" she shouted at the raccoon man. "Time flash, forward, or backward. See yourself in time." he said shaking his head as if he had just explained the most elementary math problem to a small child. Susan stood there for a moment, trying to curtail the feelings whirling like a cyclone in her mind and heart. But there was no more time for thinking, the universe had just decided to make the life of one Susan Lucretia Ivonava even more complicated. A PPG fired up behind her, and she turned to see some guards training their guns on herself and Zathras. "Aw, Hell!" she said. Susan looked up as three men entered the room where she and Zathras were being held. It was Jeff and Michael, for 2258. she thought to herself. "Susan?" a surprised Commander Sinclare asked. He looked at her, taking in her black and gold uniform, certainly not an Earth Force one. She looked about the same as when he'd left on the station a few hours ago, maybe a little thinner, with some more steel in her stare, but that was it. "We found them in the conference room. One minute there was a flash, next thing, there they were." an officer beside Jeff said. "Do you know her?" "Yes, she's my first officer but I left her on station..." Jeff said as Michael continued to stare. "Close your mouth, Michael," Susan said in a sarcastic tone of voice, "We both know its impolite to stare." "What are you doing here?" he asked hotly. "Need place, to fight, to organize." Zathras said, "For the ONE, we pull this place THROUGH time..." "Zathras, shut UP!" Susan said, giving the raccoon man a sharp whack for emphasis. "Jeff, please. I know this doesn't make sense, but I'm not from your time. You have to let us go, we need to finish our work and leave." Susan begged him. "Why? What are you doing here?" Jeff asked. "We are trying to save the future, and past in the process. PLEASE, Jeff. You have to let us go!" Susan begged him once more. Jeff really wanted to let them go, but he knew the other officers would have none of it. Susan could see this. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, a flash of green was seen. She had a better idea how to get out, much better. "MARCUS COLE, GET YOUR SORRY ASS DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!" she yelled at the top of her lungs. Jeff and Michael exchanged confused looks as Susan continued, "IF YOU WANT TO LIVE I SUGGEST YOU DO AS I SAY. DAMN IT!" Suddenly, she heard a thud behind her, and turned to see that all four guards were on the floor. The only other people still standing where the officer, Zathras, Jeff and Michael. "You bellowed, milady?" Marcus asked as he began to undo her restraints. Michael recovered from the shock of Marcus' entrance and moved forward to stop him from freeing the prisoners. Marcus trained a stolen PPG on him. "Uh, Uh." Marcus said confidently, "I really don't want to shoot you, messing up the future and all as that would, but, if you threaten me, my lady friend here, or raccoon boy, then I'm afraid I'll have to." "Come on!" Susan said as she pulled Zathras and Marcus toward the door. "Oh, and I suppose I don't even get a thank you for that little daring rescue!" Marcus protested as they made their way to the door. "Shut up and MOVE!" Susan yelled. Jeff and Michael looked at each other and followed the escapees out the door. They didn't attempt to interfere, though. The station rocked, and Jeff knew that they had to leave, but he wanted to know what Ivonava and the stranger she called Marcus were doing here. The station rocked again and Michael tugged on Jeff's arm. "Jeff, we have to leave!" he said urgently. Jeff nodded, but still made no move as he watched Susan and Marcus, along with Zathras scramble for the exit from the main hall. The station rocked once more, and Jeff watched as a pipe fell from its place, knocking Susan to the ground and trapping her leg under it. She screamed and winced in pain and both Marcus and Jeff ran to her. "Are you alright?" Jeff asked, as both he and Marcus tried to lift the fallen beam. "Yes, ouch, I'm fine!" Susan said frantically. "Go," Marcus said to Jeff, the urgency in his voice very real, "Go now, for the future! For ALL of us!" "I can't, I can't leave her like this!" Jeff exclaimed. "Don't worry, I'll take care of her, I PROMISE." Marcus told him. Jeff knew the stranger meant it, and not just about this, it seemed a promise to Jeff the Marcus would ALWAYS look after Susan. Satisfied, Jeff ran to where Michael and the rest were waiting. He looked back and saw Marcus heave the beam away, then left with the rest. Marcus finally shoved the beam away from Susan's foot and she yelped in pain again. Marcus knew she wouldn't be able to walk. "Allow me to carry you, milady!" Marcus said, even as he was scooping her up. He nodded to Zathras, who ran off ahead of them. "Fine." Susan said, trying to look neutral about it, but the vision she had earlier filtered back into her thoughts, tempting her imagination. He picked her up and carried her out of the main hall and down the corridor to where the White Star waited. "You're really light." Marcus commented. For some odd reason, which Susan would never be able to explain, she blushed. They made their way down the halls and finally made it to the hole in the deck that marked the entrance to the White Star. "What happened?" John asked as he came down the hall with Delenn and Jeff. "A beam fell on her leg, she can't walk." Marcus put simply. "Lennier," Delenn instructed, "Help Marcus get Ivonava on the White Star and bandage her leg, we have something we must do before we go. "Of course, Delenn". Lennier said as he help Marcus carry Susan down the ladder. Susan lay on one of the Minbari beds in the bunk area, Marcus kneeling beside her, wrapping her leg in bandages. "This should do until we get back to Babylon 5." he said as he rolled up her pant leg to access the wound. "It really doesn't look all that bad." he commented as his fingers brushed the skin. His touch felt electric. "Good." she smiled, "This is the second time I've had this leg broken." "Oh, really? How'd you break it the first time?" he asked as he applied a hot wash cloth and cleaned the wound. "Oh, I was trying to be diplomatic and stop this fight the Drosi where having, a kind of cultural thing, and they started a brawl and one fell on my leg real hard and broke it." Susan stated, almost laughing, it was kind of funny. "Hmm, your not so diplomatic, are you?" Marcus asked. He was wrapping her leg in strips of cloth now. "No, I suppose not. I'm more of a come in and take charge person." Susan stated with pride. "I can see that much." he said, smiling to himself. He stayed with her the entire way back to Babylon 5 and made sure she got to Dr. Franklin. He was going to keep his promise to the Entil Za, who had now traveled a hundred years into the past to become Valen. He would take care of Susan, no matter what, because he loved her.
