No matter how hard the young woman tried, she could never get anywhere on time. She hoped that Dr. Franklin won't hold it against her. When she was in med labs, she was always on time, life and death usually hung in the balance, but on her own time.... She crashed through the Zocolo from customs, not really looking at her surroundings, merely consulting the station map and trying to find med lab. She plowed right into some one. He wore an Earth Force uniform as well, the red command bar stating that he was a doctor. Just like her. "Hey, are you alright?" he asked as he moved to steady her. "Yeah, I'm just running late. I have this meeting with Dr. Franklin, I'm the new assistant nurse and I really..." she trailed off to take a breath, and the young man fancied that he'd never heard any one talk that fast before. "It's okay, I'll show you the way." he told her, paying special attention to the color of her eyes when she looked up at him. He'd always been fascinated by the color of peoples eyes. Contrary to her dark Hispanic looks, this woman's eyes were a dark blue. "I'm Adam Harrrington." "Katirina Johnson." she shook his hand quickly. She'd never see eyes the shade of Adam's before, a bright, teal blue that seemed to go on forever. The interview with Dr. Franklin went well, in fact, the stern head doctor was actually impressed with the young girl, and assigned her to his personal staff. Stephen smiled when he remembered what the young Dr. Harrington had said about her, a 7,999 word per minute word processor. He was starting to believe that. "Kat?" he asked as he leafed through the stack of notes he was looking through. "Yes?" the young woman looked up from the release forms she was filling out. "Could you go take this to President Sheridan for me? I have surgery in five minutes and I have to prep." Stephen handed the young girl the papers. Katirina knew better then to look in front of the doctor, she merely nodded and headed for the President's quarters. Once safely out of med lab, her curiosity over came her and she looked down. #Attention of Captain Susan L. Ivonava EAS Persphonie In regards to M. Cole. Status consonant last report. Dr. S. Franklin. Babylon 5 Med-lab.# "Well, that's weird." Kat said to no one. "What's weird?" some one asked. It was Adam. Kat sighed inwardly, she had a feeling the Adam thought of her as a silly ditz, which she wasn't. Goodness knows that one couldn't graduate med school if you were. "Nothing." she said and quickened her pace, hoping he'd get the point. He didn't. "You were reading the reports, you know you are not supposed to do that." he patronized. Kat turned around and looked him in the eyes, ready to set him straight. And melted when she saw those teal eyes of his. she told herself, then turned and kept on walking. Adam finally got the drift and left. At last she'd reached the President quarters. Nervously ringing the door bell, Kat straightened her med uniform while she waited. The door opened to reveal the handsome face of John Sheridan, president of the Interstellar Alliance, and probably the most powerful man in the universe. She handed him the papers and fled. A week later, Stephen asked her to go get some notes he needed for a diagnostic. The doctor was scratching his head, trying to remember where he'd left it. he remember where. The room. The room where Susan had prepared herself to die, the room where Marcus had...thoughts shut down at the thought of his friend pale and dead. well, he wasn't going to go there himself. "Kat?" "Yes?" "I need you to go to room 32, there should be some notes on the table. Get them for me and don't touch anything else." Stephen said in a firm tone. "Okay," Kat said slowly, wondering at his tone. "But isn't that area secured access only?" "Yeah." he scribbled the code on a piece of paper and handed it to her. She gave him a strange look and left. "Mind if I tag along?' Adam was asking. Kat merely nodded, she wasn't going to speak to him unless absolutely necessary. She punched in the code and quickly found room 32. Shadows seemed alive and moving from the walls where they were strewn around the abandoned room. The scent of dust and death assaulted Kat's senses as she looked around the room. Something happened here, something.....something the walls only knew, something secret and terrifying in a lonely way. The walls screamed pain, misfortune and choice, they begged Kat to acknowledge that, they begged her to unearth the secret. Shivers running down her spine, Kat quickly found the papers, glancing furtively over her shoulder every so often, as if afraid something might appear. and went to join Adam in the hallway. Then she saw him. He had shoulder length black hair and sad gray eyes that penetrated her soul to its core. He was wearing a ranger uniform. "Who are you?" Kat asked, fear rising in her throat. 'What are you doing here?" He didn't answer her. He looked down at the bed, and then gazed around the room, as if searching for something that he had lost. His eyes were filled with tears. Kat's heart tore even as she mustered her courage and said; "If you don't leave now I'll have to call security." "Who are you talking to?" Stephen asked from the doorway. He had come after all, practically running all the way. Now he wondered what the hurry had been. 'There's a..." Kat trailed off as she turned to point to the man. He was gone. "There was a what?" Stephen asked. "You aren't going to believe this, I think I need more sleep. There was a man, a ranger, sitting on the bed. He had black hair." Kat said, trying to shrug it off. "Was it shoulder length?" Stephen asked, a strange, foreboding expression on his face. "Yes." "And he had gray eyes." "Yeah, how did you know?" Kat asked. The Doctor's dark complexion paled, he looked like he'd seen a ghost. "Do you know him?" she prompted. Stephen's eyes were filled with unshed tears and unshared pain. He muttered softly, almost to himself; "Marcus." From: Becki H Blumer Subject: Fan Fiction Submission: Unrequited part 2 Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 19:08:01 +0000 Meredith D. Katirina asked, curiosity peeked. Stephen's eyes cleared and he coughed a bit. "No one. Come along, Kat, you have the notes, there's no reason to stay here." he said tersely. Perplexed, Kat could only nod and follow, filing the incident away in her mind to mull over later. "What happened in there?" Adam asked as they got back to main lab. "Nothing, nothing of any conscience." she said and walked off. Leaving Adam to wonder what had upset her so. A week passed with out incident, Med lab was especially busy getting ready for a shipment of telepaths from Earth, ones that had been modified by the shadows. Stephen yelled and bitched about it awful, since they'd been shipped to Earth only two months ago. But along with them came the equipment they would need to successfully bring them out of Cryo. Kat was put in charge of prepping the units for the transfer of the rogues. A boring and tedious job, or so she thought..... "Well," Kat spoke to no one with a long, depressed sigh, "That's one unit down, fifty four to go. This is going to take forever." To pass the time, she began to whistle old tunes, ones her grandmother had liked to play on the piano. 'The Old Rugged Cross', 'Sunrise, Sunset', 'My Favorite Things', stuff like that. Around the thirty fifth unit, she switched to Gilbret and Sullivan. She could help singing that one out loud, besides, no one was around to hear her awful voice..."I am the very model of a model major...." Kat trailed off as she heard some one whistling along. She turned around to find herself face to face with the mysterious disappearing ranger. He was standing at the end of the hall, where there was a little entry way to the cryo units containing extreme cases, whistling the tune with a sad expression. "What are you doing here? You shouldn't be here." No sooner had she spoken, then he vanished to the other room. Looking behind her to make sure no one was watching, Kat followed him. Once inside she looked at the drawer like units, all filed with extreme cases of trauma and near death. he wasn't there. But there was no way out of the room, other then the way she came. What had Stephen said? Mar, Mark, Marcus! That was it. "Marcus?" she called out softly, the dim lighting heightening her fear. The whole room filled with a low moan, like that of a wounded animal. Frightened, she back away from the door, and jumped when she hit the bar of one of the drawers. She turned around and looked at the identification plate. It read; Marcus C. Cole December 2261 Severe trauma. Indefinite holding. Kat gasped. How could she have seen him if, if he was in cryo. Maybe she was going insane. No, that couldn't be it, she'd just had a mental exam before she'd applied for this job. Something very weird was going on here, and Kat was determined to get to the bottom of it. "Kat? Katirina?" Adam was calling from the other room. Kat straightened her uniform and went to finish her job. ------- Murky red liquid greeted her eyes as Katirina stared through her glass of wine. She sat at her kitchen table, mulling over the events of her day. She felt haunted and alone, with out really knowing the source of the foreign feelings. Who was this Marcus Cole, what had happened, and how the hell did he get out of cryo? "Computer." she said, moving from the table and pulling her chair to sit before her console. "Research name, Marcus Cole. Look for any files with major reference to this name." The computer took a moment to do the job, before the toneless female voice replied; "Security clearance required. Imput password." Kat thought. "Pass code, four words: Fallen Angels, fallen from Grace." "Acknowledged." the computer replied. Three files came up on screen. Katirina spent half the night reading them. Marcus Cole had been the station's resident ranger during the Shadow and Earth wars, apparently a very brave man. he'd worked directly under Entil 'Za Delenn Sheridan, the President, and the former station XO, Susan Ivonava. The files went on to outline some of his missions. In the end, all it said was that he had met with an accident and placed in cryo. Kat's brow puckered in frustration. "Computer, are there any other files under this heading?" "Affirmative. Two other files, security clearance required." the computer replied. "Damn it!" Kat let out. She needed to know she wasn't nuts, needed to know how Marcus had gotten out of cryo, she had to know what had happened. But it didn't look like any of that would be revealed to her tonight, so with a long, drawn out growl of annoyance, Katirina went to prepare for bed. *** There were three guards laying unconscious on the floor in front of Kat, but she ran passed them, down the hall to room thirty two, there was no security clearance needed for her to pass, so she ran on...that is, until strong hands grasped her. It was Marcus. "Let go, what are doing here!?" Kat cried out as she struggled. She looked up into his stormy gray eyes and saw, pain, suffering, and hope reflected in them. Something in the shadows stirred. It was a woman, her face covered, but not concealed, by a thin black veil. She looked like she was dressed for a funeral. "Do you know who I am?" she asked. "No." Kat shook her head, trying to understand. "Who..." "SHH!" the woman placed a finger to her full lips. Kat turned back to Marcus, but he was gone. In his place was an alien machine, its wires connected to her wrist. Kat felt herself getting heavy, and sick. Then the machine was sucking, pulling her through it's tubes until the pain was such that it threatened to tear her soul to pieces.....*** From: Becki H Blumer Subject: Fan Fiction Submission: Unrequited, part 3 Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 20:25:35 +0000 Meredith D. Her breath came out in raged little gasps, her mind foggy, unclear and indistinct. Frightened and alone, she bolted out her door and down the hall way, brushing past late night home-comers and nocteral species. Her dark brown locks were wet and tangled as she feld, from what she didn't know. her mind was crying. Her legs obeyed, flying fast to the lift, her robe and night gown spread like angels wings. All the way to med lab, and down the hall, the familular path, barely pausing to imput the password she'd memorized. To room thirty two. The shadow strew land with in a land. She stoped, looking around, eyes wild with fear. Her eyes rested on the table by that bed, where...whatever happened, happened. There was a piece of flimsi plast, on it were several words, probably passcodes, squribbled on it in an elegant, yet unfamilular handwriting. Worn and exhausted, she sank to the floor and began crying. her mind begged the mysterious man for answers. She lay there for a while, how long she didn't know, before she heard a voice behind her. Stephen. "Kat? Are you alright?" he asked. She quickly shoved the piece of flimsi plast in her pocket beofre her put his hands on her shoulders and moved to help her up. Katirina stood before the stern head doctor, bathed in the shadowy illumination, and he saw her in a different light. She was wearing a short red satin night gown and robe, her hair frizzy and wild around her face. "I'm fine, I guess I was sleep walking." Kat dodged. He nodded and led her out into the main lab. Once there, he let her lean against the wall to catch her breath. Her sky blue eyes looked into his, as if trying to read something written behind them. Kat wondered. Thoughts ceased when she felt the pressure of his lips on hers, hard, pocessive and demanding, yet at the same time gentle and loving. Pressed to the wall, Kat wond her arms around his neck to steady herself and Stephen let his hands rest on her waist. When they finally broke the kiss, he looked down, as if ashamed. "I'm, I'm sorry Kat, I don't know came over me." Stephen stammered. She was suddenly angery. No one had ever kissed her like that, and now he was apologizing for it!? "Well," she said softly, "I hope you figure it out, because I liked that. I liked that alot." Now he looked up at her, his eyes were smoldering. "Well, let's try this again." Stephen laughed slightly before his lips came down on hers once more. Adam had been working late in the lab, trying to catolog some test results, and was just coming into main lab when he saw them. Kat, wearing a VERY foxy nightgown, pressed against the wall and kissing one Stephen Franklin. They were both so into it that they had apparently forgotten they were in the middle of Med-lab, granted, that it was basically empty. Adam stepped back into the shadows, conceeling himself. Finally, they came up for air. "You sure you're okay?" Stephen asked. "I am now." Kat laughed. That same laugh that had managed to brighten Adam's day several times since she'd arrived on station. "But I think I should go back to bed." "That's a good idea." Stephen gave her a quick kiss, before adding, "Take tomorrow morning off, I'll meet you for lunch." She nodded, kissed him back and left. Stephen watched her leave, then went back to work. He was shaking his head, the words of a certain ranger with a pain in the ass tendancy echoing in his mind. *Touch passion when its there, Stephen, espeacially if it calls you by name.* Well, he obiviously wasn't going to get ANY work done tonight. ------- Kat woke at a gloriously late hour. Nine in the morning, how lovely, normally she had to get up at fiver for her shift. She stretched against the pillows, then moved to go make breakfast. She still had three hours before she would go see Stephen for lunch, and she had a lot to do during that time. Number one on her list was to go see President Sheridan and Entil 'Za Delenn. Second, was only if they didn't tell her what she needed to know. Third, which would be second if the afore mentioned didn't happen, was to go see Marcus in Cryo. Quickly, Kat ate her breakfast then put on her Earth Force uniform, pulled her hair up and away from her face. With a quick look in the mirror, she trotted to the lift. She needed some answers, and mark her words, Kat was going to get them. ------ John Sheridan sighed and looked up from his paper work. Damn, he hated this stuff. One would think that it might get easier with time, but it was merely the same annoying job it had always been. His link buzzed. "Yes?" he asked. "President, Dr. Johnson wishes to speak to you and the Entil Za, ASAP." the young secretary said. "About?" "She only said it was important." "Alright. Ask Delenn to meet me in the conferrence room in twenty minutes." John said. It never seemed to end. He'd been right when he'd told Lochly that the road to hell went through this office. ------ The President and Entil 'Za were conferring quietly when Katirina entered. Thank God she'd left twenty minutes early, she'd gotten there on time. "Dr. Johnson, please, be seated." John said, recognizing the young girl who had delivered the report for Ivonava two weeks ago. "Thank you, President, Entil 'Za, for seeing me." Kat said as she took the offered chair. "What was it you wished to speak to us about?" Delenn asked, fine features registering confusion. "Marcus Cole." Kat stated simply, and watched their reactions. Delenn's eyes showed pain, and remorse, but Sheridan's only got hard, like ice. He looked at her like a bug, and she raised her chin and looked him square in the eye. "How do you know about Marcus?" John asked. "I don't. I don't know anything, well, that's not true, really. I don't know what I should because no one will tell me. You're hidding a secret, Mr. President, and you are damning both Marcus and myself to hell." Kat didn't know where all this courage was coming from, but it coursed through her veins and gave her purpose. "What do you want to know?" Delenn asked with kind eyes. "What was this accident? What happened to him? And how the hell did he get out of cryo so he could haunt me?" Burst Katirina. She couldn't believe that they wished to hide this. "I would..." Delenn began, but her husband interupted her. "That's classified information." John claimed tersly. "Thought so. Oh, well, time to try another track." kat got up to leave, but threw over her shoulder, "Thank you for your time, Entil 'Za. Thanks for nothing, Mr. President." Kat thought. But she was going to see this through. Dr. Katirina Johnson was going to unearth the turth and save her sanity, or die trying.
